Telugu poet and Jnanpith awardee C Narayana Reddy is no more

Modern Telugu poet and writer Cingireddi Narayana Reddy who is the recipient of the Jnanpith Award in 1988 passed away this morning. C Narayana Reddy was born in a remote village of Hanumanjipet in Karimnagar district of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh on July 29, 1931. He did MA and did PHD in Telugu literature from Osmania University where he also worked as a professor. In 1992, he was felicitated with Padma Vibhushan, he was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 1997. He received the prestigious Jnanpith award in 1988 for his poetic work Visvambara which was later translated in to many languages. He also served as vice-chancellor of Telugu University and held many important positions in government to promote Telugu language.

Narayana Reddy’s lyrics for Telugu films songs are evergreen. He had a close association with NTR and wrote many songs for his movies, Nannu Dochukunduvate from Ghulebhakaavali katha, Telugu Jaathi Manadhi Ninduga Velugu Jaathi Manadhi will always be in the minds of all Telugu movie lovers.

The state governments of AP and Telangana expressed grief and shock over the death of C Narayana Reddy and offered condolences to his family.
